And although life may not be easy when you're only 2ft 11ins tall, the tiny couple, who've just got engaged, refuse to let their small stature get in the way of them living their lives.

Katyucia, who lives with Paulo in Brazil, says: “We’re like any other couple - except we’re smaller. People point and stare at us, whisper and even laugh openly – you can’t escape it - but it doesn’t bother us. I was bullied as a child and learnt to deal with it."

Paulo, 30, has diastrophic dysplasia dwarfism, but drives a specially adapted car and works as a legal secretary, while Katyucia, 26, who has achondroplasia dwarfism, owns her own beauty salon.

The couple got together eight years ago, after meeting online and four years later moved in together. For both of them it's the first time they've been in love and now they’re engaged and planning their wedding.

Katyucia says: “Paulo is the ‘one’ for me. I didn’t fall in love with him because he was small and it’s the same for him – he always tells me that he likes my mind and the way I think.

"And I love his patience and kindness. But it's great to be with someone who understands the challenges of being small.”
