An appeal to the Supreme Court was made after judges said Roman Catholic midwives had the right to object to doing terminations, if it is against their religion.

Closer columnist and TV star Doctor Christian had something to say on the matter on Tuesday, when he took to his Twitter to share the news of the case with his followers.

‘UK’s highest court to rule on midwives. Can they refuse 2 take part in abortions on moral grounds. Words like ‘sin’ are being used. In 2014!’

Many reacted in anger to Dr Christian seemingly criticising the case, attacking him on social media.

‘When u do abortion u r killing a baby, unborn but it’s still a baby’ wrote one user.

Another simply said: ‘unfollowed u ya f*ing tw’ in response to the tweets.

Never one to shy away from controversial issues in medicine, Dr Christian tweeted back: ‘Don’t do it and u may kill an adult. Better?’

Jessen also retweeted a message from a supporter who wrote: ‘Can a firefighter refuse to rescue a gay person if they believe that to be a sin? Where does this end?!?!?’
