Devastated daughter: ‘My dad killed mum- I’ve lost both parents’

Last week, Dad-of-three James McDonald was sentenced to life in prison after murdering his wife of 15 years Sophie when she asked for a divorce. In a heartbreaking tribute, their daughter Florence, 13, said: "You only get one mum and mine has gone. She will not be there when I need her- when I get married, have children... it breaks my heart to know that the person who supposedly loves me made this decision to take this special person away from me."

Closer speaks to Sophia Newton, 20, who can understand the pain Florence is going through. Her mum Assia was murdered by her builder Dad Kelvin in 2013.

The mum-of-three has told her estranged husband she'd met someone else before he strangled her with a dog lead.

He was later sentenced to life in prison but while Sophia says she will never forgive him, she still visits him in prison every two months.

She explains: "It's impossible to understand the devastation and confusion you go through when a loved one is murdered by someone you also trusted and loved. I hate my dad for killing my mum and I'll never forgive him, but I love him too. I can't just switch off my feelings for him.
