Devastated aunt: “I watched my beloved niece die aged 36 from alcoholism”

Beverley Pickorer was just 36 when she died after years of chronic alcohol abuse ravaged her body.

In the last few months of her life she was bedbound, blind and unable to speak.

The mum-of-four also suffered from jaundice and cirrhosis of the liver – an incurable condition where the liver is scarred from continuous drinking - and sadly died from liver failure in August 2014.

Both of Beverley’s parents Jean and Steven died from cancer several years ago but Jean's sister-in-law Marie is speaking out in a bid to stop others suffering the same fate.

Marie begged her niece to stop drinking.

Marie, 52, from Sheffield, says: “Beverley was a lovely girl growing up. She was rebellious in her teens but she was always close to the family.

“Watching her drink herself to death was heartbreaking. She’d promise to stop drinking but she never did.

“Beverley was so young to die. I want to warn everyone how dangerous drinking can be.”
