Happy Paws Puppy Rescue, based in Eastbourne, East Sussex was established in July 2014 by dog-lover Lisa Smart. Since the charity was set up just over a year ago, Lisa and her team have gone from strength to strength and managed to rescue over 100 Golden Retrievers from high-kill shelters across Europe. Lisa has worked tirelessly to secure them loving homes and families once they are safely back at Happy Paws HQ, but the work doesn’t stop there. Through no fault of their own, on a daily basis, these dogs are being thrown out on the streets or ending up in freezing cold pounds, with some of them spending their whole lives chained up.
Happy Paws are now undertaking their biggest international group rescue and they are aiming to save seven Golden Retrievers from Turkey who are in desperate need of help.
Lisa told us: “This rescue started with one dog, Marley, then over the next few weeks we were asked to help more. Although we are a small charity we are totally dedicated to animal welfare and we would not even consider leaving one behind. Rescuing mainly Golden Retrievers from abroad is what we do best and we have had a very successful year. With many precious lives saved, these seven souls deserve their chance at a happy ever after. The rescue is not without its challenges, but as a charity we follow a strong faith that we can achieve whatever is needed to ensure the dogs’ safety. We take great pride in our work and are very proud of what is being achieved. This rescue is putting a strain on our charity’s finances as each dog costs us £800, but we think this is the price worth paying to ensure these beautiful souls can live a life of happiness, warmth and kindness and forget all the cruelty, hate and unkindness they have suffered in the past. I for one cannot wait to see them curled up in front of a fire, walking in a local park, being loved by their family but most of all I enjoy seeing them all so content and not stressed.”
