Tributes have been pouring in for Kirsty Howard after news of her death broke this weekend.
Kirsty was admitted to hospital last week with a kidney infection but was transferred to intensive care.
She passed away at Manchester Royal Infirmary at around 1.38am surrounded by her family.
The 20-year-old was born with a back-to-front heart and dedicated much of her childhood in raising awareness for her rare condition.
At the age of 4, Kirsty was given weeks to live but defied doctors’ predictions and continued to raise valuable funds up until her death.
David Beckham shared an emotional message for the youngster, who he ays inspired him to score during the famous 2002 World Cup Qualifier.
He shared a picture with Kirsty, writing alongside it: “Words cannot describe how amazing this young lady has been over the years.
“Kirsty has been defying doctors for many years and whilst doing that she has been raising millions of pounds for terminally ill children.
“I met Kirsty in 2002 when she became the nation's and my good luck charm for the game against Greece, we also met the Queen together in Manchester so you could say we have spent some amazing moments together over the years and it was an inspiration to meet such a brave young lady with so much drive for helping others.
“My love and thoughts go to Kirsty's parents and sisters as this inspirational young lady will be missed.
“My heart and love goes to Kirsty for letting me be a small part of your world over the years.
Rest in peace.”
Kirsty battled her illness whilst studying childcare at college. She also gained 12 GSCEs.
