The father wanted to smack his daughter after she had misbehaved, but was worried that he would be accused of breaking the law.
"There is a big difference between beating your child and disciplining your child"
So, in a bid to ensure his spanking didn't get out of control, he phoned police and asked them to come and supervise him in his punishment.
Somewhat surprisingly, they agreed to do so, and sent out an officer to the man's home in Florida.
After watching the man spank his daughter, the officer determined that it did not constitute as a crime and the man was not arrested.
Defending the officer’s actions, Noel Stephen, the sheriff for Okeechobee county where the father and his daughter live, said: "There is a big difference between beating your child and disciplining your child."
He also revealed that this is not the first time this has happened.
He explained: "It’s definitely not something we advise to do, and even though law enforcement has been willing to help out in this situation, watching a parent discipline their child is something that’s done only when a deputy has no other calls to handle."
Spanking children in Florida is legal, so long as the child does not receive any serious harm or lasting physical marks from the incident.
