Apart from one border with their fellow European nation, Croatia has closed every entrance to the country from Serbia, after 11,000 immigrants arrived on their doorstep.

This was a direct result of Hungary closing its border with Serbia, leaving thousands stranded.

Many of the refugees are attempting to make their way to richer Western Europe - including Germany and the UK - via Croatia and Hungary.

Most are Syrians and Iraqis fleeing war zones, many of whom have travelled across the ocean and then through Greece and Macedonia.

Syrian Abu Mohamed said Europeans had ‘nothing to fear’ from people like himself, who were just looking for safety.

‘Terrorism is not coming with us’ he added.

But Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said that the country had a ‘limited capacity’ and warned that it was not the way to the rest of Europe.

Bordering Slovenia are also unwilling to take in the migrants, saying any that get through from Croatia will simply be sent back.
