Shelley Hay and Ben Milton were on the beach when extremist Selfeddine Rezgui opened fire on holidaymakers on Friday, killing 38 people.

Luckily for them, they managed to flee the beach in time, grabbing their belongings and running towards the hotel gates along with dozens of others.

Speaking to ITV, Ben said the moment ‘was like a stampede…the path was only small so everyone was trying to squeeze through this gap.’

But Ben, who is from Cardiff, had actually planned to propose to his girlfriend that day, who was also celebrating her 25th birthday.

‘First of all I thought ‘I’m going to have to leave it and wait until we get home’’ he said.

‘But as the day went on I thought ‘No, Actually, they’re not going to stop this,’ so I just did it anyway.’

After proposing to his girlfriend in a restaurant on Friday evening, the couple, along with hundreds of other Brits, were placed on an emergency flight back to the UK.

They arrived back in Cardiff on Saturday lunchtime to celebrate their news, in what many are calling an act of defiance in the face of terror.
