The pair has twins, a boy and a girl, born to an Indian surrogate in 2012, but after they were born decided they only wanted to keep the female of the children.

Australian officials were apparently left powerless when the husband approached the Department of Immigration and said ‘they could not afford to support both children’ back in Oz.

‘He also sated that they already had a boy and wanted to take the girl to complete their family.’

'Our ability to ensure the welfare of a non-Australian child in a foreign jurisdiction is limited’ documents read, while other messages urge action.

‘He also sated that they already had a boy and wanted to take the girl to complete their family.’

The situation was said to be one of a kind for the country, as they had never dealt with a child who was born through surrogacy being put up for adoption.

Even more disturbingly, Family Court Chief Justice Diana Bryant also reported that officials told her the boy was given to another family in exchange for money - a process that could be counted as human trafficking.

This case comes just a year after a baby was left in Thailand by his Australian parents, when he was born with Down’s Syndrome.
