The Coronation Street cast and crew have been rocked by the news that one of their directors has been arrested for child grooming
Tim Dowd, one of the directors on Coronation Street, has been arrested on suspicion of grooming a 13-year-old girl.
The 65-year-old was caught in a police sting, during which a police officer posed online as a 13-year-old child.
Dowd, who has worked on Coronation Street for 24 years and has directed over 200 episodes including last night's double bill, was held at his £500,000 home in East Keswick, West Yorkshire last Friday, on suspicion of enticing a child into sexual activity.
It has been reported but not confirmed that Dowd, who has also previously worked on Emmerdale, Casualty and Heartbeat, has lost his job on the soap.
A spokesperson for ITV said: "As a police investigation is underway, we are not in a position to comment."
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "A man was arrested on Friday last week on suspicion of an internet grooming offence.
"He has been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing."
This comes only a few months after Corrie actor Bruno Langley avoided jail after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two women.
He was also accused by a 15-year-old girl of "pursuing" her and trying to seduce her in a gym.
