Corey Griffin, 27, launched the charity campaign which has spread like wildfire across the globe.
He reportedly died after diving into water from a Straight Warf building in Nantucket.
Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, David Beckham and Coleen Rooney have all contributed their own ice-bucket challenge videos, with clips being shared on various different social media platforms.
The campaign was originally created to raise money for ASL (Amyotrphic lateral sclerosis) but has since been used to help raise money for several different charities across the world.
Corey’s father Robert told The Boston Globe: “He was the happiest guy in the world.”
He revealed his last conversation with his son: “He called me last night and told me he was in paradise.”
One of Corey’s friends who suffers from ASL write on Facebook: "He worked his butt off these last few weeks for ALS. We texted everyday, planning and scheming ways to raise funds and plan events."
The campaign has so far raised £22 million.
