Chilling pictures from space show killer Typhoon Maysak heading for the Philippines

The chilling images show the enormous scale of the super typhoon which experts predict will wreck havoc on the country when it reaches land.

The pictures were taken from the International Space Station by astronauts.

Italian Sam Cristoforetti posted some of the images to her Twitter account.

American Terry Virts also uploaded the astonishing pictures to his social media accounts.

Writing next to one picture, Terry wrote: “Looking down into the eye - by far the widest one I’ve seen. It seemed like a black hole from a Sci-Fi movie.”

This morning, it was reported the typhoon was carrying winds of 109mph and could cause gusts of up to 124mph.

Rescue and relief teams are on standby and are ready to move in to try and minimise the risk to human life.
