Children rushed to hospital after roof of London primary school collapses

At least fifteen children - aged between 9 and 12-years-old - have been treated by medics following the terrifying incident

The assembly hall ceiling caved in at private school GEMS Hampshire School, in Manresa Road, Chelsea, west London.

Thankfully no one was trapped, but seven children were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade tweeted: "Part of a ceiling has collapsed at a school on Manresa Road in #Chelsea. Thankfully no one was trapped. @Ldn_Ambulance are also at the scene"

A London Ambulance spokesman added: “We were called at 9.26am to reports of a collapsed ceiling at a school on Manresa Road in SW3.

“We sent a single responder by car, three ambulance crews, the hazardous area response team and a duty officer to the scene.

“We checked over 15 children aged between 9 and 12 years old at the scene.

"We treated seven of these children for minor injuries such as dust in their eyes and bruises, who were taken to Chelsea and Westminster hospital."

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council will be launching an investigation into why the ceiling collapsed.
