It’s official; Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is the latest to join the royal family, following an announcement from Duchess Catherine and Prince William over the weekend.

It read: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

"The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge."

Her middle names were chosen in honour of Charlotte's great-grandmother the Queen, and her late grandmother Princess Diana.

It is also believed that William and Kate chose Charlotte - the feminine version of Charles - in honour of the Duke’s father, the Prince of Wales.

It is also Pippa Middleton’s middle name.

So what do all of the little princess’s monikers mean?

Charlotte:

“Free man”

Elizabeth:

“My God is an oath”

Diana:

“Heavenly, divine”

All in all, they come together to create a truly beautiful - and meaningful - name for the fourth in line to the throne.
