The world was left in shock in horror when ‘Africa’s most famous lion’ was shot dead by dentist Walter Palmer.
Now it has been reported that Cecil’s brother Jericho has also been killed by hunters.
Johnny Rodrigues from the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said in a statement: “It is with great sadness and regret that we report that Jericho was shot dead at 4pm this afternoon.
“We are absolutely heartbroken. We have no further details but will advise as soon as we know more.”
The conservation team previously stated that Jericho had been protected Cecil’s young cubs in the wake of his horrific death.
Lionesses and cubs from Cecil and Jericho’s pride are now unprotected, making them vulnerable to outside dangers.
When the MailOnline attempted to contact conservationist Rodrigues he was ‘too devastated to speak’.
There has been international outrage over the death over Cecil, with celebrities such as Geri Halliwell and Ricky Gervais condemning the killing.
An overwhelming amount of people are now calling for a total ban on hunting in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
There are now calls for hunter Walter Palmer to be extradited to Zimbabwe to face charges, despite his claims that his hunt was ‘legal’.
The American dentist paid $55,000 to shoot Cecil with a cross bow, documenting his kill on social media.
Two men who assisted with his hunt have already appeared in court on poaching charges.
