In Japan cats are considered lucky, and in the case of this cat it seems the Japanese couldn’t be more right!

Kazuko and Takeo Yamagishi spent three months searching for their cat Suika after she went missing following the 2011 Japanses tsunami.

Their hometown of Ofunato on the coast of Japan was badly hit by the 2011 tsunami, which left over 15,000 people dead.

12-year-old Suika was reportedly home alone during the time of the tsunami and the Yamagishi’s home fortunately remained intact. When they returned to their homes following the disaster, their feline friend was nowhere to be found.

Kazuko and Takeo assumed the worst when they could find no sign of their beloved cat.

But, in a lucky turn of events, Suika was spotted in a neighbouring town over three years on from the natural disaster.

A couple found the missing cat in a wood and took it to a nearby health centre.

Using information from Suika’s collar (which had remained intact) those who discovered her managed to track down her delighted owners.

During the emotional reunion, Mrs Yamagishi said to Suiki: ‘Where have you been… It’s just like a dream.’
