Linda Cramphorn attempted to steal £22,000 from Brenda Butler, 81, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

The care worker disguised herself in brown wig, and used a walking stick and sunglasses, when she entered the Halifax bank to withdraw Brenda’s money.

She was able to take £400 from Brenda’s account, but when she asked for a bankers draft of £22,000, staff became suspicious.

Police intervened, and this week Linda and her partner Sanjay Patel, 43, were jailed for 16 months.

They appeared at Leicester crown court, where prosecutor Alan Murphy said: “Cramphorn went to the bank disguised as the complainant and someone who would pass at being 81.

“The cashier thought the woman who presented as the account holder looked a bit odd. All of it was caught on the bank’s CCTV. “

Even Linda’s lawyer said: “It’s surprising she got the job, given her record. She suffers from mental instability and has been sectioned in the past.”

Judge Michael Pert QC said of Linda: “This was a cynical exploitation of the elderly. You set out to bleed her account dry.” He also branded her a ‘conwoman.’
