A new law has enabled ex-couples to serve each other with divorce papers via Facebook.

Ellanora Baidoo served husband Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku with divorce papers by Facebook message when her lawyers were unable to track him down.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper said that he gave Baidoo “permission serve defendant with the divorce summons using a private message through Facebook.”

“This transmittal shall be repeated by plaintiff’s attorney to defendant once a week for three consecutive weeks or until acknowledged” he adds. “I think it’s a new law, and it’s necessary.”

Elusive Blood-Dzraku (Facebook)

Baidoo and Blood-Dzraku married in 2009, but Blood-Dzraku refused to have a second ceremony in the couple’s native Ghana.

The marriage was never consummated and the couple split. Baidoo had been unable to track down her husband to serve him the papers as he is currently ‘unemployed’ and not registered at an address.

Baidoo is currently in touch with her ex husband by telephone and Facebook, but private investigators have failed to track him down.

Could this change the way divorces are conducted forever?
