It has been revealed that a 59-year-old woman is planning on making UK history and giving birth to her daughter’s baby despite her daughter passing away in her 20s.
The mother claims that it was her daughter’s wish for her egg to be fertilised with a donor sperm and implanted into her womb.
The daughter reportedly made the wish before succumbing to bowel cancer.
So far, all UK fertility clinics have refused to carry out the procedure and the Human Fertility and Embryology Authority has stopped a request for eggs to be exported and fertilised in New York.
The authority claims that the woman’s daughter did not give ‘clear consent’ for the procedure.
The mother and her husband are now planning to challenge the ruling at the High Court.
A London based fertility doctor told the Mail Online: "I have never heard of a surrogacy case involving a mother and her dead daughter’s eggs. It’s fair to say that this may be a world first."
