A cafe is under fire after staff allegedly told a breastfeeding mother to ‘have a bit of dignity’ and cover up.

Victoria Jones was in her local cafe when her newborn baby daughter began to get restless. The new mum decided to do the natural thing and feed her daughter as discreetly as possible.

Five minutes into her baby’s feed, a manager of the Kath’s Korner Kafe in Swansea asked Victoria to cover up and ‘have a bit of dignity’.

A shocked Victoria felt embarrassed and outraged by the incident.

She told The Mirror: "I'm a a new mother and I feel quite shy about breastfeeding in public anyway, but this has really knocked my confidence.

"I couldn't believe she said that to me. Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world, and it left me in tears that I had been asked to cover up.

"I have breastfeed in so many different shops and restaurants, but never faced the negativity that I did this morning."

The owner of the cafe later told local news: "I have absolutely no problem with women coming to the cafe and breastfeeding.”

She then explained that her issue was that Victoria was sitting in an area of the cafe where most of her customers could see her.

"She had most of her breast out, so I asked her to cover the top part of her breast, as the cafe was busy and people could clearly see her.”

She then added that Victoria had ‘overreacted’.
