Emma Murphy is a fitness blogger, a mum-of-two, and a domestic abuse survivor.

And, in an incredibly brave Facebook video, the 26-year-old has explained how she wants to raise awareness about this growing issue.

She said: “I’ve been in a relationship for three and a half years with a guy who I thought was the love of my life. He was the love of my life.

"Last year he split my head open"

“I loved him with all my heart.

“We’ve had ups and downs; I’ll cherish the ups, I won’t miss the downs.”

The doting mother continued: “Unfortunately last year I found out he cheated on me with one of his colleagues… she contacted me and told me she was pregnant.

“With the stress of it all, I went into labour early. My world was torn upside down, as I’m sure you can imagine.

“I loved him so much so I tried to forgive him… but he did it again, on Father’s Day weekend.

“He denied it; of course, he denied it. And when I threw his phone against the wall, he punched me in the face.

“It wasn’t the first time. Last year he split my head open. And, at an event prior to that, he gave me a black eye.”

A visibly emotional Emma, whose fresh black eye is clearly visible in the shot, continues: “For the last year and a half, I’ve been told that I’m paranoid, that I’m nuts, that my insecurities will kill me one day.

“And do you know what? I finally realised that this is unacceptable.

“No man has any right to put a hand up to a woman… even once it’s unacceptable. And to be made to feel that it is acceptable is even worse.

“To be told that you’re paranoid, and insecure, and nuts, is mental torture. No man should do that to anyone.”

Speaking about her decision to walk away, Emma finishes: “Now I’m a single mum of two gorgeous children… and, unfortunately, when they ask me where their daddy is, he’s not going to be around. He’s not going to be there for them anymore.

“And they’re going to know that their daddy hit their mummy, and that’s not something that children should see at all.

“They shouldn’t see any violence

“So if anyone out there has gone through something similar to what i’ve gone through… go to your friends and family. Especially if you have children.

“It’s not a good environment for your children to be in.”
