The 11-year-old victim went the doctor complaining of stomach cramps, where she was told that she was 32 weeks pregnant.
"I didn't know what pregnant felt like, so I didn't know," the unnamed girl said simply.
Her grandfather prompted her to say she had a boyfriend who was responsible for her pregnancy, but the dates did not add up.
She told child advocates: “Instead of him doing the wrong thing, he would come in and tell me what to say.
“He didn’t want to get caught.”
During an interview with the head of a children’s advocacy organisation, the little girl went on to reveal how 55-year-old Mikeal Pruett, who was guardian to her and her 9-year-old sister, used to come into her room and molest her.
She said when she would reject her grandfather’s sexual advances, he would "lie on the couch and pout."
"He’d wait to see if I could come out and look at him and feel sorry for him, but I wouldn’t."
In a later interview, the younger sister revealed that she sometimes woke up and watched “through a peeking hole” in her bunk bed as Pruett molested her sister.
“I’ve been keeping a secret,” the younger girl said in the interview.
“Now I want to tell.”
Mikeal Shane Pruett has been sentenced to 200 years in prison for his crimes, and will not be eligible for parole until he is 105.
“You seem to lack any semblance of a conscience,” the judge told him.
When given the chance to speak, Pruett muttered: "I'm so sorry."
The sheriff's office is now investigating claims that Pruett sexually assaulted other girls, one as young as three.
