A man pretended to be his girlfriend for two weeks after he killed her. The man, aged 24, can only be referred to as Mr Lee under South Korean law. It’s believed he murdered Sunny Kim, 26, after she tried to break up with him.
For two weeks after her disappearance, Mr Lee spoke to Sunny’s friends over text to keep up the pretence that she was still alive. Chillingly, he studied her previous messages and copied the way she spoke to her friends and family.
“The way that he text[ed] me was how would my sister would text,” Sunny’s sister, told Buzzfeed.
“We think he may have gone through her phone to see how she usually contacts us. It was really shocking to see how someone can really hide what they did in that way.”
It also came to light that on the day Sunny was murdered she had accepted a new job. But Mr Lee wrote back and told her new employer she would be declining the offer as “she was going back to the US to study.”
It’s reported Mr Lee turned himself into police after cutting his own wrists. Buzzfeed report how he walked into a police station and told officers: “I killed my girlfriend and buried the body. I also tried to kill myself.”
Sunny’s body was later found in a suitcase that had been buried under cement near her home.
Mr Lee is due to appear in court at a date later this year.
