Officers searching for a missing school girl have revealed that they have found human remains.
The body was discovered in a field near the village of Ibstock, near to her home in Leicestershire.
Chief superintendent David Sandall said following the grim development: “Tonight, we have discovered a body in a field.
“While formal identification has yet to take place, Kayleigh’s family are aware of the discovery and inquiries are continuing.”
The teenager went missing after she told her parents that she was sleeping over at a friends.
She was last seen when her father dropped her off outside Ibstock Community College last Friday evening. She reportedly made contact with her parents the next morning but she has not been seen or heard from since Saturday.
Police are allegedly concerned that she met up with a man she was speaking to on Facebook.
A 27-year-old manx and a 28-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
Kayleigh’s 18-year-old brother Kyle revealed to ITV News that he felt ‘terrified’ when police admitted that they thought Kayleigh had been murdered.
He said: “We just want to know where she is. We just want her home with the family.
“We're just hoping that she can get in touch or anyone that knows where she is or any information at all just to ring the police or to get in touch with us, myself or anybody who can help.
“Just when they go out to look. Look in bushes look anywhere they walked along or if they find anything give it to the police. Anything that may help.
“Like brother and sister we do argue but we're close. The past six months to 12 months we've been tighter than ever and then this happens.”
Our thoughts go out to Kayleigh’s family at this difficult time.
