After a trial lasting several weeks, Becky Watt’s stepbrother has been found guilty of her kidnap and murder.

Becky, 16, went missing in February sparking a massive manhunt and police operation.

Her remains were found at 28-year-old Mr Matthews’ property in Warmley, South Gloucestershire.

Mr Matthews and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21, were later arrested on suspicion of her murder.

Ms Hoare was acquitted of Becky’s murder after she told the jury that Mr Matthews physically and psychologically abused her.

Mr Matthews claimed that he killed Becky after trying to ‘scare’ her in a kidnapping attempt and insisted to police that his girlfriend had no involvement in her death.

Becky’s body was dismembered before Mr Matthews tried to conceal her remains by burying them.

During the trial he then admitted to perverting the course of justice, preventing lawful burial and possessing a prohibited weapon.

Ms Hoare denied all charges made against her, including conspiracy to kidnap and murder.
