In the current era of Kardashian-mania, Real Housewives of Beverley Hills and adding ‘like’ to every sentence, it would appear something else has migrated over the Atlantic Ocean.

Our kind American cousins have imported showers. Baby showers, bridal showers, everything showers.

Whilst they were traditionally held to impart wisdom on the expectant mother of her first child, they seem to have morphed into something more materialistic.

When my best friend recently got married, she had an engagement party, a pre-hen party, an exotic hen-holiday, a bridal shower and then of course the actual wedding.

'It seems to be getting more and more common to have a shower at every given opportunity. And I don’t mean after a gym session'

No doubt a baby shower will be next.

You have to wonder whether perhaps the mothers are milking it. I happily and willingly bring my many child-bearing friends rattles and baby grows galore- on the birth of their happy and healthy offspring.

In the current days of Americanisation, it seems to be getting more and more common to have a shower at every given opportunity. And I don’t mean after a gym session.

Before you say I am a cold-hearted spinster- I’m in a happy long-term relationship, and I don’t have children, but I hope to, one day.

For now, all my milestone moments have been job-related. In which case, I call for a career shower.

As a happy bacholerette who has chosen to focus on her career, and prefers buying bags to bottles, shouldn't I also get some recognition in this modern world?

If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em.

“Hallmark don't make a 'congratulations-you-didn't-marry-the-wrong-guy card”.

As the infallible Carrie Bradshaw points out in Sex In The City upon having her fave Manolos stolen at a baby shower. ‘You have been rewarded with thousands of dollars in gifts for your life choices- engagements, weddings, babies’- “Hallmark don't make a 'congratulations-you-didn't-marry-the-wrong-guy card”.

I’m with her. All the way. Yes, I’m making it all about me.
