According to police, the baby’s mother had filled a contained with water to mix formula.

However the baby’s father later dumped out the water and poured vodka into the container instead.

The mother, unaware of the switch, then used the two ounces of vodka to make up the baby’s bottle.

According to KATE 11, an American news site, the 20-year-old mother popped the baby in a pushchair and took her for a walk shortly after the incident.

She soon noticed that the baby was acting abnormally - and that the child's hands and toes had turned red, her eyes were partly closed, and one leg was shaking.

The baby was rushed to hospital, where it was discovered that her blood-alcohol lever was 0.294 percent.

To put that into context, an adult in Wisconsin - where the incident took place - can be arrested for drink-driving if their blood alcohol reaches 0.08 percent.

That means the baby was four times over the limit.

After the woman realised what had happened, she was allegedly attacked by the baby’s father, who choked and hit her with the bottle.

Police officers arrived and charged the man with strangulation and battery, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.

He could face ten years in jail if convicted.

The baby’s mother, meanwhile, is unlikely to face charges, as police do not believe she meant to feed alcohol to her baby - who, if all being well, will hopefully be released from intensive care later this afternoon.
