The baby girl, named Nicole, was being kept under observation at the Sofiamed hosptital in Bulgaria.

However security footage has captured the moment that the four-day-old was savagely attacked by nurse Emiliya Kovacheva, who is said to have bitten, hit, and beaten the little baby with a glass bottle used to feed newborns.

The video recording also showed that Kovacheva even tried to strangle the baby, just seconds after having caressed others babies in the same room.

The attack was so brutal that it was initially believed that the tiny tot would not survive - or would, at the very least, be left brain damaged.

However medics at the hospital worked around the clock to save little Nicole, and it is now thought that she will make a full recovery.

Kovacheva, a mother herself, was arrested on charges of attempted murder after the CCTV images exposed the real reason the child had suffered such horrific injuries - including bite marks.

Prosecutors have claimed that Kovacheva was frustrated that the newborn would not sleep, and so decided to ‘punish her’ for waking up the other babies on the ward.

She now faces a possible 20-year prison sentence if found guilty.

The 12 minute video, which we have deemed too horrific to be included in this article, was posted to YouTube.

It has led to many people calling for the nurse to be given the death penalty.

One wrote: “I would kill her and not think twice. Pure evil this woman.”

Meanwhile hospital spokesman Boriana Marinkova has said: “The most important thing for a child’s parents is to see how the baby will recover.

“Other things are not so important.”
