This video footage shows the proud mother, Indah, holding onto the youngster tightly as she navigates the trees in her enclosure.
Indah gave birth to the adorable, fuzzy bundle of joy on the 25th of October in private and out of view from visitors.
Zookeepers said: 'Immediately after the baby was born, Indah cleaned the baby’s airways and inquisitively examined every inch of her.'
'Indah has been a very good mother, attentive to the newborn’s every need and like all new mothers, sleeping when she has the chance.'
Orangutan youngsters enjoy the longest childhood amongst ape species and stay with their mother until they are around 8-years-old.
There have been 38 orangutan births at San Diego zoo since 1928, but the species still remains endangered with only 7000 left in the wild.
