Sophie Cachia, an Australian blogger called The Young Mummy, has shared a fascinating way to burp your baby when it's just not happening
There are certain things that work perfectly well with children one day, and the next have absolutely no effect.
For example, when you try and bribe them with a treat when they're having a full-blown tantrum on the floor of Sainsbury's - some days it works like a dream, others... It doesn't.
Another of these life problems is when you're trying to burp your baby.
It might work perfectly fine one day, but the next, you're both fed up at 4am, desperately trying to bring up their wind.
But one mum in Australia has found a totally new method of burping a baby who is refusing to burp.
Sophie Cachia, also known as The Young Mummy, recently uploaded a video to her 224,000 Instagram followers, telling them about a method she "accidentally stumbled across" that is "foolproof" when burping her five-month-old, Florence, who she nicknames Flossy.
She wrote: "This is my foolproof way I've burped both of my kids. I completely stumbled across it by pure accident with Bob, but it worked for him as a newborn, so I did the same method with Flossy."
Sophie appreciates that her method can often be anything but simple, adding: "Sometimes they arch their back and you need to use some gentle-but-firm mummy/daddy love to hold them in place!"
But the 26-year-old mum-of-two goes on to detail her method: "Sit them on your lap and bring their knees bent in and lift their arms up to about 90 degree angle.
"I'm not sure if it's because it straightens their back or opens up their body more, but I find my kids have just magically burped this way."
Ok, WOW. Little Flossy literally just let rip!
The miracle mum went on to add some more advice: "They need to be calm though and body relaxed - hence the dummy because Flossy was screaming the roof off seconds before as she'd finished her bottle."
Sophie goes on to say that she is no preacher: "BY NO MEANS am I preaching that my way is THE way to burp and telling you YOU MUST DO IT (don't we hate those people!?!) - I'm just offering some assistance and tips to try for new mums who may be struggling in this field - I know I certainly did before accidentally doing this."
Other mums flocked to the comments, saying that they'd tried Sophie's way and it had worked amazingly: "Thanks for sharing, you have seriously helped this mumma out so much!!"
Another wrote: "I used this technique twice tonight when my little miss wouldn't burp... And BAM!! Burps!!! You freaking legend! Love following your journey in life. Thanks so much for sharing."
One person commented: "Just tried this with my niece and it was he loudest burp ever, works like a charm!", and another added: "I saw this & have been trying it with my 4mo daughter & it's been working a treat! And saving my shoulder which was getting really sore. Wish I had of known this with her brother who was a spewy burpy baby too. Thanks for sharing!"
What a lifesaver!
