And up until now, it has tended to be men who were the perpetrators of this disturbing act - usually when an ex partner shares pornographic images of their former flame to the internet - causing terrible repercussions for the individual concerned.

But over the weekend, Rachel Lynn Craig, 28, was arrested for sharing an explicit photo of her ex’s new girlfriend.

REVENGE PORN TO BE MADE ILLEGAL

The Virginian woman was having an argument with her former partner, when she stole a photo of his current girlfriend from his phone and posted it to Facebook.

And rather than try to hide her actions, Craig even took credit for the posting on her own page, warning the victim ‘not to mess with her.’

Luckily, revenge porn postings were made illegal in America back in July, and Craig was promptly arrested for her actions.

The Justice Secretary for the UK, Chris Grayling announced earlier this month that Revenge Porn postings will carry a maximum jail sentence of two years - once the law is implemented in the Spring.

An advocate for revenge porn victims, Annmarie Chiarini, compared the new trend of women targeting other women in this manner to the site ‘She’s a Home Wrecker’ - a controversial website which allows betrayed partners to post pictures of their husband’s bit on the side.

‘That site is the first I’d ever heard of women victimising other women,’ she said. ‘It’s very unusual.’
