Olivia Retter fell asleep with her phone in her bed with her one night.

But, during the night, toxic liquid leaked from her phone case (bought from New Look) and onto the schoolgirl’s skin.

The next morning, the 9-year-old woke up with a phone-shaped burn on her leg - leaving her mum, Karly, absolutely horrified.

In a bid to warn other parents about the dangers their children may face, she wrote: “Please share this as much as possible.

“This case is full of acid and if it cracks it will cause 3rd - 2nd degree burns.”

The horrified mum added: “This is the damage it has caused my daughter and she will be scarred for life!

“A lot of girls have these at the moment so just be careful.”

The message has been shared almost 50,000 times on Facebook, with many parents calling for Karly to demand compensation.

She later told The Sun that her daughter was not supposed to have her phone in her bedroom, but had sneaked it into the bed that night.

She said: “She woke up in the middle of the night and came into my room and said her leg was hurting – I just thought she was being silly and sent her back to bed.

“Then in the morning I saw this awful burn on her leg – I was so shocked a phone case could do that.”

Doctors later diagnosed that Olivia had suffered a severe chemical burn, and the she will be scarred for life.

New Look have since announced that they are taking the complain “extremely seriously”, and that the £5.99 phone case is being removed from sale across all of its stores nationwide.

A spokesperson for the company said: “New Look has spoken with the customer involved and takes complaints of this nature extremely seriously.

“In line with our Health and Safety procedure, we have now instructed all stores to remove the product in question from the shop floor with immediate effect.

“Our quality team have also begun an investigation with the supplier to understand and prevent this from happening in the future.”
