Ten years ago, Kellie Haddock was on top of the world; she'd just had her first child - a bouncing baby boy named Eli - with her doting husband.

"My world fell apart in an instant"

She was on top of the world - until tragedy struck.

On their way home from visiting her husband's parents, she, her husband, and their son were involved in a devastating car crash.

While Kellie only suffered minor injuries, her husband was killed instantly from the impact.

Writing on her website, she explains: "My world fell apart in an instant, I went from singing to weeping. From all being as it should be, to suddenly finding everything in a million pieces around me.

"I felt like I was left standing there in the middle of the rubble and I didn’t know which way was north."

But Kellie did not have time too to grieve, as 14-week-old Eli was also seriously injured; the newborn had suffered serious brain trauma in the impact, and medical staff immediately rushed him into intensive care.

Doctors told a heartbroken Kellie that, should the tiny infant survive, he wouldn't be able to walk, talk, or show emotion.

But with the help of a dedicated team of doctors, Eli pulled through, despite having a traumatic brain injury.

And brave mum Kellie has since remarried, and her new husband has adopted little Eli.

"The five years I lived as a widow and single mom of a child with special needs were intense"

"The five years I lived as a widow and single mom of a child with special needs were intense," Kellie wrote on her website. "To say it was hard is a terrible understatement.

"[But] about 5 years ago God fulfilled a deep desire of my heart to provide me with a husband and Eli with a daddy to teach him how to be a man and join me in the good work of being his parent.

"We have three children now and are so grateful for all that God is doing in our lives. We don’t get to choose tragedy but we can choose how we respond to tragedy."

Now, ten years after the accident that changed her life, Kellie has decided to show her gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medics who helped save Eli's life.

Dubbing her mission the "Thank You Project," Kellie filmed herselftraveling to Orlando's Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to pay tribute to the team of heroes who saved her son.

And the grateful mum, who is a singer-songwriter, invited them all to a concert in their honour.

Jodi McDuffie, one of the nurses thanked by Kellie, told Today.com: "It's hugely meaningful.

"And you realize, I did the right thing by signing up to be a nurse."
