After working in retail to scrape enough funds for the trip, she jetted off – while her boyfriend of 18 months, Aaron, remained at home in Australia to continue his job as a carpenter.

Kate departed with not a care in the world, enjoying the sights of London, Paris, Prague, Croatia … and more.

But she had no idea that her unborn son was enjoying them all with her!

She revealed to The Young Mummy blog: “I had absolutely no real clear symptoms.

"I was still getting regular periods. I wasn’t nauseous, no morning sickness, little weight gain, so it seemed silly to think I would be pregnant. All I had leading up to it was constipation, and I went from a C-cup to a D-cup."

“I was still on the pill up until June and since I was going overseas and not seeing my boyfriend for 2 months (so no sex) I thought it would be a good idea to give my body a rest. So in June when I didn’t bleed, I thought 'that’s ok, I’ve just got off the pill, it’s my body is adjusting.'”

She continued: “Then in July I didn’t get it either. I was in Barcelona on my own and that’s when I started to get a little scared, since I hadn’t slept with my boyfriend in 7 weeks, I thought I could be more than 7 weeks pregnant.

"I bought a pregnancy test and took it in San Sebastián. Positive. I immediately rang and told Aaron, and although he was shocked, he was supportive thinking we’d still have options. I wasn’t showing at all and had no symptoms, so we assumed it would be early days.

"It took me a week to book in to an doctors since I was on the go travelling, and it was then in Prague that the doctor told me I was 33 weeks pregnant.

"I didn’t have time to process it until the flight home, where I basically cried for the 22 hours."

Kate jumped on a plane and flew home, where she felt her baby kick for the first time.

But, after having scans at a hospital in Australia, doctors revealed that Kate was actually overdue in her pregnancy - and that she would need to be induced.

They also told Kate that the reason she hadn't had any pregnancy symptoms was because she had a tilted-back uterus and that the baby was sitting high up in her diaphragm.

She said: “I was scared because I didn’t know if the baby was healthy. Obviously having not known for so long, I was exercising heaps, jumping off cliffs, riding bikes, drinking alcohol and eating anything & everything. The baby’s health was both mine and Aaron’s main concern.”

Baby Mason arrived - and, despite the initial shock, Kate and Aaron are taking well to parenthood.

She said: “I have a beautiful healthy baby boy, my relationship with Aaron is stronger than ever (although it’s more work than it’s ever been, trying to find ‘us time’) so I can’t complain too much. I’ve just gotta’ roll with it and make the most of it.

"Mason’s here and I’m going to try to be the best parent I can be for him.

“I honestly don’t know if I’m doing it right or wrong. But he’s a happy baby and gaining weight, so I must be doing something right.”
