Witnesses saw the woman, believed to be in her 20s or 30s, pushing a pushchair out of a train at about 11:50am.

The woman then darted back on the train just before the doors shut, leaving the 7-month-old baby girl on her own.

According to WPIX-TV, a person who was on the platform when this happened stayed with the baby for about 20 minutes, thinking the mother would come back. When she didn’t, this person called the police.
