Georgina and Rich Smart featured in the first episode of the fifth season of One Born Every Minute. We watched dad Rich support Georgina as she delivered their son, Max, and we welled up just a bit when he first laid eyes on their newborn son.

The couple met online, and it seemed like fate when they worked out that they lived just down the road from each other.

Georgina says: ‘Me and Rich met through Facebook where he was on the hunt for a local spray tanner to work in his salon, he happened to come across me on Facebook. We were talking for 3/4 months before we actually realised he was my neighbour just 3 doors up!’

Georgina always knew she wanted to be a mum, telling us: ‘I said if I was lucky enough to have children I would want as many as I could manage, that was before I had any. Now I have a 4 year old girl and Max and I think that's enough!’

During the episode we learnt that Georgina’s mum was hesitant to accept Rich into the family fold.

Georgina's mum was on hand to support her through the birth.

Glamorous mum Georgina says: ‘She was very wary of Rich at first as she thought he didn't seem the settling down type and she knows that I am. After Rich confessed that he was head over heels for me, my mum was happy to approve. When I told her I was pregnant she was very happy for us both.'

When Georgina fell pregnant with her second child, she decided to take part in the BAFTA winning series.

‘I loved the last four series and have always said 'I could go on that.' When I heard they were filming at my hospital and at the time Max was due it just seemed like an experience I couldn't of missed out on.’

Dad Rich held Georgina's hand throughout the birth.

Georgina says she would love to show her children the emotional footage when they’re older: ‘Whether they will actually want to watch it is a different question ha ha,’ she laughs.

She added: ‘Giving birth shouldn't be looked at as a shameful thing. We are very lucky to be able to have children and be able to give birth naturally.’

Georgina says that her favourite thing about being a mum is: ‘Seeing them grow up into the next generation and being able to flood them with love and attention with no limits.’

With the NHS often getting a lot of bad press, One Born Every Minute shows how hardworking the midwives are and how they deal with what can be a stressful and demanding job.

Georgina says she her experience having Max in an NHS hospital was a positive one, adding: ‘No matter who helps you give birth to your baby it's going to come out one way or another.’
