But rather than having terminal cancer, the 24-year-old had actually just undergone keyhole surgery to check if she was suffering from ovarian polyps.

Danielle received a bargain on her wedding dress and venue - including free champagne - by saying she wanted to marry her fiancé before chemotherapy made her hair fall out.

People began to be suspicious about Danielle’s story however, when two months after the wedding she revealed she was pregnant.

Wedding planner Leigh Stewart gave Watson free help worth over a thousand pounds, but became sceptical of her story when a donor offered Danielle a free course of Vitamin C treatment, which she refused.

The 52-year-old said that after the incident she closed her wedding planning business and slammed what Danielle did as ‘appalling, she affected my family, my life, my work.’

‘She needs help. It is not a logical mind that does that,’ she added.

DC Rob Lewis, who investigated the matter for Essex Police, said: ‘Danielle Watson acted in a cold and calculated manner. She befriended and abused the trust of kind and generous people who wanted to help a person they thought was dying.’

‘At no point did she demonstrate any form of remorse or shoulder the responsibility for her conduct.’

Watson plead guilty to fraud as her trial began at Basildon Crown Court on Monday. She will be sentenced in January.
