Perhaps unsurprisingly, the man and his wife are now suing two doctors and Princeton Baptist Medical Centre in Alabama, where the 'botched' procedure was carried out.

The lawsuit claims: "When the plaintiff ... awoke from his aforesaid surgical procedure, his penis was amputated."

The two doctors have dismissed his claims as untrue, with lawyers insisting: "When the facts are known, it will be shown that this is simply an unfair attempt to damage the reputation of dedicated physicians and an outstanding clinic with claims that are completely false."
