Inspirational 26-year-old: ‘My ex killed my baby son- now I’m a mum again’

When Karly Hopson's six-month-old son Ethan was killed, her whole world fell apart. Now, she tells Closer how becoming a mum again has given her hope for the future

When baby George breaks into a cheeky grin, it’s a bittersweet moment for Karly Hopson.

Not only is she overwhelmed with love for her gorgeous four-month-old baby, it’s also a poignant reminder of her first-born son, Ethan, who at just six months old was killed by Karly’s ex-boyfriend Jason Redgrave.

After being found guilty of violently shaking Ethan while babysitting, causing fatal brain damage, Redgrave was jailed for eight years in June 2012.

Now, just over three years on, Karly, 26, has become a mum again and tells Closer she’s looking to the future- but will never forget Ethan.

Karly says: “Ethan was my world. To have him snatched away so early was devastating, but I knew I had to stay strong and carry on.

“George reminds me so much of Ethan; he has the same cheeky smile. I still light candles in Ethan’s memory, and take George to his grave once a week to lay flowers. It breaks my heart George won’t get to meet his big brother but I’ll make sure he’ll know about him. I’m trying to look to the future and remember the happier times with Ethan.”
