Q: I’ve been on 40 dates since I started online dating eight months ago.

It’s not that I don’t like any of the men, it’s just exciting not knowing who’s going to turn up.

My friends think it’s an addiction but I’m having fun. It’s not like I’m sleeping with them. Andie, by email

A: It seems pretty harmless to me. Having one date isn’t leading anyone on and I get the impression you’re upfront about not being after anything serious.

There’s a whiff of commitment phobia about it (have you had any long-term relationships?), but it could simply be a phase of your life when you don’t feel like forming serious relationships.

If it continues for years, it’s worth examining your motives but, at the moment, just relax and enjoy playing the field!
