Meredith McCardle devoted a whole wall to the first page of the Harry Potter series, because she’s a “huge nerd”.
And quite frankly, we think it’s incredible!
Who wouldn’t want this in their house? It would make a beautiful idea for a study, or even your child’s bedroom!
Meredith is an author based in Florida, USA and she’s obviously a big fan of JK Rowling’s books. She even has “Harry Potter is a religion” in her Twitter bio.
And this week she shared her seriously creative wall decoration – a hand painted version of the first page of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
After receiving a lot questions on how she did it, Meredith took to her blog to share the process:
“I borrowed an overhead projector from the elementary school where my mom teaches, printed out the first two pages of Harry Potter, which I got from a free sample of the book at Scholastic’s website, onto transparent film, then projected the image onto the wall."
She added: “I then spent twenty hours tracing it. I thought it would take two. Honestly and truly. I’m awful at time estimation. It took me twenty minutes alone to trace “Mr. and Mrs. Dursley,” after which I realized I had made a serious miscalculation.”
Meredith used the first page and a half of Harry Potter as she explained there was an illustration taking up half of the first page, and there was “no way [she] was going to attempt that”.
She spent another forty hours painting the words in, spending a total of sixty hours to complete the wall.
And why did she choose that page?
“A nagging voice kept telling me I needed to start at the beginning, on the very first page of the very first book. Where the magic begins,” she explains.
How amazing does it look though?!
And Meredith got the recognition from none other than JK Rowling herself, which she was obviously very excited about, saying: “OMG. This is a thing that just happened. THIS IS A THING THAT JUST HAPPENED.”
