Those looking into undergoing cosmetic surgery abroad have been warned to do their research after a British woman was killed during a bum implants procedure.
Joy Williams, 24, from Thameshead died in October after travelling to Bangkok to have bum implants inserted.
She felt unwell following the procedure and died shortly after having the implants removed, just a week after they were implanted.
Joy’s older brother Anietie told the MailOnline: 'We don't really know what went wrong, we only know what is in reports in the media.
“She was a very nice and caring person… She was a beautiful girl, loved by everybody. We will miss her so much.”
The doctor who performed the procedure was arrested for negligence following Joy’s death but continues to perform procedures at his clinic in Bangkok.
Officers discovered that he had been performing procedures after hours- even as late as 11pm at night.
Head of the regulatory Medical Council of Thailand, Dr Samphan Komkrit told Channel 4 News: “Historically (in Thailand), breast implants, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty – these jobs were not done by plastic surgeons… We don’t want to discriminate against doctors who are not plastic surgeons. This is about self-interest and business interest.”
Kevin Hancock from the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons said that following Joy’s death ‘people need to be extremely cautious’.
