A revealing video has revealed what would happen if a frightened boy runs up to strangers on the street and tells them that a man is trying to abduct him.

As part of a social experiment on child abduction, hidden cameras filmed as the boy, played by a child actor named Nathan, approached strangers and told them he had been in the park with his mother when a "man in a jacket" came up to him and tried to put him in his car.

The man in the jacket, played by the creator of The Kidnapping Children Experiment, Yousef Saleh Erakat, then comes over, claiming to be the boy’s father and tells the strangers that the boy has run off and is telling lies.

Explaining the video, he says: "Kids being abducted are nervous being around the person who captured them so it's on us to know when he or she is in danger.

"This video will not bring back any of the disappeared angels but it may help prevent losing anymore to the devil."

As you will soon see, however, people respond very differently to the pleas of a terrified child:

While one brave woman shielded the boy from his would-be-abductor - and pepper-sprayed him as she shouted for him to run - many of the people Nathan approached allowed him to walk off with the man.

One, chillingly, even shook hands with the 'abductor', believing his story that he is nathan's father and laughing over the boy's behaviour.

The Kidnapping Children Experiment was created to raise awareness about the role the public can play in stopping child kidnappings.

"One decision can change an individuals [sic] life forever. When you are put to the test, will you pass?" asks the video, which was uploaded to YouTube yesterday.
