But, being an ocean lover, she longed to get back into the sea.
Luckily for the 50-year-old, a friend of her son, who is a keen surfer, came up with an ingenious way of making her wish come true.
'I was always talking about [how] good it would be to go surfing and one day, a friend of my son said 'you know what, I think we could tape you onto my back and take you out there.'
Tyron Swan, 23, said that from then on Pascale hassled him every time he went for a surf.
'She would put herself through anything to be in the ocean,' he said.
And after mastering the technique (and balance) to allow Pascale to ride on his back, Tyron then decided they should do a whole tour to find the best waves.
The video of the pair surfing togethre - joined by duct tape - has gone viral since being published on YouTube. Take a look at the amazing footage below.
'It's been absolutely amazing,' said Pascale. 'We never thought that it would go this big.'
