As Kelly Gunderson lies next to her 87-year-old mother in bed, she tells her 'You're my mama,' to which her parent replies 'Alright I'll be your mama.'

The conversation goes much like any other for Kelly and her mum, who can barely recognise the daughter she raised since developing Alzheimer's.

But in a touching moment caught on camera, Kelly's mum suddenly recalls who she is, saying: 'You're Kelly' followed by 'I love you Kelly.'

She adds: 'I think you'd have to love [someone] to lay down with them like this.'

And after her daughter asks: 'What are you thinking about right now?' Her mother replies: 'I'm loving you. Isn't it wonderful?'

Although medical opinions differ on how much people who suffer with Alzheimer's and Dementia understand of their surroundings, moments like Kelly's are not rare - with many remembering their loved ones even when deep in the grip of the disease.
