A male assistant head teacher in Texas held an assembly where he told female pupils their “tight clothing” was to blame for their male classmates poor grades.
“I still blame you all for boys’ low grades because of tight clothing,” he reportedly said.
A recording of the assembly has since been uploaded online (listen below).
The recording shows him make some equally shocking comments such as: “Now girls, I know you are trying to work on your abs since the Olympics, right?”
Sorry, what?! And he continued: "But your shirts can't be up here, it's gotta cover the whole gut.”
With between 20-25% of women sexually assaulted on university campuses in the US, it’s alarming that this is what’s being taught instead of teaching boys not to sexualise female bodies.
Also, as some of the (male and female) students rightly took to Twitter to say, boys surely have more self-control than he's given them credit for.
Em, a student at the school told ABC 13: "He made it seem like girls are just in school as a distraction for boys, when in reality, our education is just as important as theirs."
A statement has since been released stating: "During assemblies last week, when speaking about the dress code… comments [were made] that were inappropriate and offensive to students. These comments should not have been made, and do not represent the beliefs of Fort Bend ISD or the Clements administrative team or faculty."
