‘Peaches therapy’: The rescue pitbull who helps children read, the sick heal, and the elderly laugh
Whip out the tissues quick, because these images of Peaches the dog therapist will make you weep- in a good way.
The four-year old Terrier Hybrid- with a ‘penchant for hugging cats’- was recued in Michigan along with her siblings at 10 days old by a local pit bull rescue group.
Her foster owners found she had a talent for helping those around her, and registered her with Therapy Dogs Incorporated, Intermountain Therapy Animals‘ R.E.A.D. program, Chelsea’s Community Hospital’s dog therapy programme amongst others.
Now young Peaches does professional hospital visits to the elderly and sick to give hug therapy (‘providing a calming, nurturing effect’), laugh therapy, helps children learn to read by giving an attentive ear, and even helps socialise worried puppies and cats.
We heart her.
