Anti-circumcision advocacy groups claim that the common practice affects men’s sexual function and sexual satisfaction.
Now, a report has led to the release of new guidelines from the Centre for Disease Control, claiming that circumcision has very clear health advantages.
Dr Aaron Tobian wrote in a report: “The benefits of male circumcision have become more and more clear over the last ten years.”
The new CDC report now claims that male circumcision can reduce a man’s risk from contracting HIV from a female partner by half as well as reduce the risk of being infected with genital herpes and strains of human papillomavirus.
Researchers also believe that circumcision can lower the likelihood of urinary tract infections and cancer of the penis.
Despite these findings, instances of circumcision are reportedly down by over half of what they were during the 1950s and 1960s.
Some of those who argue against circumcision in babies claim that the practice is a form of genital mutilation and should be made illegal.
