Nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped from a boarding school in Nigeria by terrorist group Boko Haram.
Boko Haram are a terrorist group who wish to impose strict laws Nigeria and they do not believe in girls attending school.
The kidnapping sparked a campaign, which involved the hashtag #BringOurGirlsBack, being shared millions of times on various social media platforms.
Celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian, Cara Delevingne and Leona Lewis all shared photos of themselves with the hashtag.
American first lady Michelle Obama also posted her own picture in an effort to raise awareness of the Nigerian schoolgirl’s plight.
Boko Haram recently shared a chilling video showing over 100 of the schoolgirls claiming to have converted to Islam.
Two of the kidnapped girls have since been found, though severely injured and tied to a tree.
President Obama wrote a letter to his government notifying them that 8 troops were heading to Nigeria to search for the abducted schoolgirls.
The letter read: ‘These personnel will support the operation of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft for missions over northern Nigeria and the surrounding area.’
It added that soldiers would remain in the area ‘until its support in resolving the kidnapping situation is no longer required.’
